Stepping out of your comfort zone and embracing something entirely new is an experience like no other. Studying abroad is a monumental step, especially when it’s your first time leaving the familiarity of your home country.
I’ve always loved to travel and explore new places. Growing up, I dreamed of seeing the world and visiting countries I had never been to before. In the spring of 2024, from January to April, I had the incredible opportunity to embark on Semester at Sea, a journey that allowed me to travel across three continents, explore 11 countries, and visit countless cities—all while continuing my studies aboard a ship.
What made this experience so unique was the way my education came alive. Each time we docked in a new country, I had the chance to apply what I had learned in class to the culture and environment surrounding me. From studying history to engaging with local communities, every lesson felt tangible and meaningful.
Living on the ship for four months felt like being part of a tight-knit community. I made lifelong friends and shared unforgettable moments, both on board and during our adventures ashore. When the journey ended, it was bittersweet to say goodbye to the ship I had called home and to the people who had become like family.
After Semester at Sea, I reunited with my family to continue traveling through several other countries. It was a joy to share my experiences and newfound knowledge with them, adding even more depth to the stories and insights I had gained during my time abroad.
Studying abroad not only broadened my horizons but also fulfilled my lifelong dream of seeing the world. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me forever.
